School Direct is an innovative approach to initial teach training programmes and a fantastic opportunity for aspiring teachers to 'learn on the job' with the support of experienced teachers and mentors guiding them through the training.
Our PGCE (with QTS recommendation) programme has been specifically designed, with the help of Liverpool Hope University to enable students to be classroom confident and ready as Newly Qualified Teachers by the following July. Each trainee is a member of the school team from the very start of the new school year, assigned a mentor, a comprehensive resource library and has three school term long placements (in at least two different schools) to provide an insight and extensive experience of working in schools from the start.
As a Teaching School, we use a range of different placement schools; sending students to community, faith, academies and nursery schools to maximise the range of experiences gained whilst training. Our highly qualified trainers and mentors scaffold the theory behind the practise to nurture and support students straight into the classroom ensuring they are school ready and confident to take on their NQT year. We also offer enrichment placements to alternative provisions including high schools, private nursery schools and special provision. All trainees also attend Masters level days at Liverpool Hope University, Hope Park campus.
‘We pride ourselves on 100% good and outstanding pass rate for all of our trainees and many of our students gain employment within the school networks they have trained or within the authority, supporting our aim to train and retain outstanding teachers for Warrington. Students, and their subsequent employers, tell us the breadth of experience they gained made them secure in their choices when they moved onto their NQT year.
We have regular Open Days for prospective trainees. They are fun and interactive where we take people around to placement schools to meet past/current School Direct trainees, trainee mentors/trainers and lots of children! Check our events pages for more details.
We are partnered with 23 Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Specials Schools for both termly placements and enrichment weeks. Some of the schools and where you may be training are:
